Costco vs. Ashley Furniture: How to Choose

Neither is automatically better: Costco can be a practical choice if you find a furniture set that fits your space and priorities, while Ashley may suit you better if you want to compare more furniture styles and configurations. We recommend deciding on the piece you need first, then comparing specific options rather than treating either name as a guarantee of quality.

Costco is a retailer that carries furniture from various brands, while Ashley is a furniture brand and retailer, so a storewide comparison can hide important differences between individual pieces. Our team would compare frame materials, upholstery or cushion construction, dimensions, care instructions, delivery terms, and the applicable return and warranty details for the exact items you’re considering.

For a living room, measure the wall space and walking paths before choosing a sofa or sectional; a lower price or a preferred style will not help if doors cannot open or people cannot move comfortably around it. For a patio, measure the usable area with chairs pulled out, and consider whether you have a dry place to store cushions when they are not in use.

If you’re choosing patio furniture, look closely at the stated frame material, fabric care, and any instructions for cleaning or storage, because outdoor pieces still need maintenance. Our 5-Piece Outdoor Patio Furniture Set planning guide can help you think through layout before you compare it with a Costco or Ashley option; the featured 5-Piece Outdoor Patio Furniture Set is another configuration to consider, not a reason to skip measuring.

Compare the full cost you would pay, including any delivery or assembly charges, and read the terms that apply if the furniture arrives damaged or does not fit your space. If two options meet your size, material, and care needs, we would choose the one whose total cost and purchase terms work better for you—whether that happens to be from Costco or Ashley.
